Shanel Mayo serves as a Director of Recovery Education and Leadership at Crestwood Behavioral Health, Inc. and has worked in the behavioral health field for over 10 years. She began her journey at a community-based recovery center where she worked as an Activities Coordinator for men and women struggling with substance abuse. She started working with Crestwood in 2015 as a Recreation Assistant, moving her way to Activities Coordinator and Director of Staff Development in the 6 years she was with the campus. Her most important and meaningful accomplishment has been her own personal recovery from substance abuse and depression. Shanel attributes every goal she has met and will meet to her ongoing journey of self-discovery. She obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Recreation and Sports Management in 2020 and is currently certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in the state of California. She most recently graduated with a master's in healthcare administration in 2025. Shanel brings her passion for leisure and education everywhere she goes, advocating for the implementation of life worth living goals in all areas of recovery.
