This presentation highlights the groundbreaking implementation of the first-ever Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) trainings in Kibera, Nairobi—one of Africa’s largest informal settlements. Our initiative included both a WRAP Seminar I and a WRAP Facilitator Training, marking a significant milestone in community-based mental health empowerment in the region. We partnered with two grassroots organizations: HAKI Group, which supports individuals living in extreme poverty, many of whom are affected by HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence; and Strong Resilience Rangers, an organization dedicated to the mental wellness of African wildlife rangers who face daily dangers in their work protecting endangered species from poachers and armed threats. This proposal will showcase how WRAP is being adapted and embraced in unique Kenyan contexts to foster healing, resilience, and sustainable community-led recovery.
